Alarm Clock

I just left one of the major electronic box stores here in my hometown, I had to buy a new alarm clock (the old one stopped waking me up for some reason!) and it cost me $35.00.  That’s right I paid $35 for a clock!

Let’s take a look at what I got for $35: a clock, an alarm, an AM and FM radio… I think $35.00 is a lot for a clock.  Now in comparison with something that I know well, let’s look at GPS vehicle tracking.

For less than what I paid for the alarm clock I could receive the cost savings provided by tracking a commercial vehicle for the period of one month.  For under $35 I would get the award winning software of the OnlineAVL2 from Navman Wireless.

Contact Driver Watch Systems today to learn how you can get this money savings software for less than the price of an alarm clock!

GPS Vehicle Tracking: Hardwired vs. Handheld

There are many things to consider when your are making the decision between a hardwired GPS vehicle tracking system and a hand held GPS tracking device, such as those in cell phones.

First off you must consider what it is you want to track.  Do you want to track your vehicle or do you wan to track your employee?  With the hand held devise you will be tracking a person, a person with the capability of  leaving it in a McDonald’s or accidentally turn the devise off for about and hour or …7!  With the hand held device you are tracking a person who may decide that they don’t want to be tracked any longer and erase the application that allows them to be tracked.  The hardwired system stays in the vehicle and out of the drivers way so that it can not be turned off, and if a person decides to do just that then device will report that is has be powered down!

Secondly, the cost is always a consideration.  A hand held GPS tracking device in a cell phone will probably be cheaper, at first, only because most popular cell phones will last about 1.5 to 2 years.  Of course that depends on the people using them.  My personal experience with my employees show that the 1 to 1.5 year mark is about it for a cell phone’s life.    You can expect 5 to 7 years out of a hardwired GPS tracking device, because it is not in and out of a vehicle 10 times a day or on an off a tool belt 15 times a day.  So in the long run you are only purchasing one hardwired unit for every 3 to 4 cell phones.

Lastly the accuracy of a dedicated hardwired GPS unit is about 99% while the handheld is closer to 55%.  That means less reliability and more occation for doubt to be brought up between you and your staff as to their whereabouts an any given time.

Remember you get what you pay for, if you pay for a cell phone you get a cell phone.  If you pay for a tracking device you get a tracking device.  And for the best you can get a Navman Wireless GPS tracking device for your entire fleet here with Driver Watch Systems.
